Arrival at Christchurch...and moving on to Queenstown

After a VERY long flight around half the world, I finally arrived in Christchurch. Stepped out into balmy 20 C weather and smiled. However, on the way to the hostel, I lost my smile, as it is really sad to see how destroyed the city really is after the big earthquake in 2011. I admire all the folks who seem to not lose hope and have started rebuilding the city (and their lifes, really) with great efforts, and have kept positive. I can tell this used to be a very pretty and relaxed town with lots of history and life, and I am sure it will get back to it again in a while!
After 2 nights and a day of orientation, I decided to go towards Queenstown, where I will meet my friend Judith for a bit, and also take it as a launching point to Milford Sound...On the way, we also passed Mt. Cook and Lake Tekapo, of which you see some pics below...
The views are stunning, simply everywhere. It's hard not to constantly take pics (as some of you know I would love to do)...
Nach einem LANGEN Flug einmal um die halbe Welt, bin ich mit einem Laecheln in sommerlichen Christchurch ausgestiegen (bei 20 C ist das nicht schwer...). Leider war mir jedoch auf dem Weg zur Unterkunft nicht mehr zum Laecheln zumute, denn die Zerstoerung durch das Erdbeben im letzten Jahr ist doch ziemlich verheerend gewesen. Man kann die Menschen nur bewundern, die sich nicht unterkriegen lassen, sondern ihre ganze Energie zusammen nehmen, und alles wieder aufbauen. Trotz der uebergreifenden Stille kann man sehen, dass dies mal eine lebhafte, kultur- und geschichtsreiche Stadt war, und es auch wieder werden wird!
Nach 2 Naechten und einem Orientierungstag habe ich mich dann entschlossen, Richtung Sueden mach Queenstown zu fahren (wo ich meine Freundin Judith kurz treffen werde), am Mt. Cook und Lake Tekapo vorbei...Ich konnte mich wirklich kaum zurueckhalten, nicht schon hier meine 8 GB Memorykarte zu verschiessen ;-)
Also naechstes steht der Milford Sound an, den ich im Kajak erkunden moechte...freu mich schon sehr!

Interlude...London...and then Berlin (fast forward)

How to sum up almost 4 years that have passed since my last post?
I spent a brilliant time working in London, and living with my lovely Canadian boyfriend Chris. In search for a new adventure, we moved to Berlin end of 2011. Now we're about to discover our new home(city) and will hopefully like it as much as we loved London. We do miss our friends there a lot, and the city, too. But we also know that we will love Berlin the same way ;-)
However,  for now I'll be off to discover New Zealand and spend time with some amazing friends.
To say the least: I am thrilled!

The End - last weeks in California...

...und ein Ende war es tatsaechlich, mehr als ich das vorraussehen konnte. Das Ende einer Seifenblase, so scheint es fast, ein komplett anderes Leben, eine unglaublich intensive Erfahrung... Es war ein tolles Jahr, eines der Besten und gleichzeitig eines der Schlechtesten (oder, weil sich das so hart anhoert, sollte ich vielleicht lieber sagen: gute Entscheidungen, und schlechte Entscheidungen). Ich will auch nicht ins Detail gehen, ich glaub das wuerd den Blog sprengen, aber es war eine tolle Erfahrung, und ich habe viel gelernt, das kann ich zumindest sagen! Die letzten 2 Wochen habe ich mit lieben Freunden verbracht (siehe Beitrag vom 14. Mai), privaten und Arbeitskollegen, und habe versucht, so viel positive Energie zu laden, wie es nur ging - ich habe quasi Kalifornien getankt ;-) ...and an end it was, indeed. The end of what seemed a completely different life, an experience so different, so powerful... It was just amazing, and 2007/8 was indeed one of the best and the worst years of my life... I won't go into details, as I think the blog will collapse ;-), but let me just say, that this year was definitely a very intense one, in all aspects. The last 2 weeks I spent with friends (see last post from May 14) from SF and friends from work, and tried to take as much positive energy with me as I could - I really filled up on California ;-)

Ok, ok... I'm back!

Nach ein paar ganz bescheidenen Monaten in denen das Leben nicht ganz so gelaufen ist, wie ich es mir gewuenscht habe (und ich bin mir sicher, viele von euch koennen es schon nicht mehr hoeren ;-) ), nachdem ich ungefaehr 6 Kilo abgenommen habe, und ungefaehr 20 cm Haar abgeschnitten habe, nachdem ich in eine (fast) neue Stadt gezogen bin und mir gaaanz langsam einen neuen Lebensabschnitt aufbaue, habe ich mich entschlossen, mich auch blogmaessig wieder zurueckzumelden, nachdem ich festgestellt habe, dass ihn doch ganz viele liebe Freunde lesen, auch wenn sie nie einen Kommentar hinterlassen :-P Ich hoffe, ihr vergebt mir meine Pause, ich musste mich doch erstmal wieder etwas sammeln...
Nun wie gesagt, ich bin wieder in London, nun Mitglied des arbeitenden Volkes, und ich versuche es zu geniessen, trotz der Tatsache dass es eine Notloesung war, und trotz des wirklich unwirtlichen Wetters... Aber ich werd mal von vorne (oder auch vom Ende) anfangen, und nach und nach aufholen...After a few very poor last months, where life managed to disappoint me quite thoroughly (and yes, some of you might by now be sick of hearing it ;-) ), after losing 6 kilos and cutting off some 20 cm of hair, after moving to yet another (almost) new city and starting to build a life from scratch, I decided it's time to start blogging again, as I have realized that there is indeed a faithful bunch of friends reading this, though they never leave comments... ;-) Please forgive me the lapse of blogging, I badly needed some time to gather myself...
But, as stated, I am back in London, this time as part of the working class (though studenthood was awsome, sooo much better actually...), and I try to enjoy myself, despite the fact that it was an emergency solution, and despite the dreadful weather... I'll just start from the beginning (or the end, depending on the perspective), and will catch up bit by bit...

Langsam heisst es: Abschied nehmen...

Mein vorletztes WE hier in Kalifornien, mein letztes mit meinen Freunden, denn naechste Woche ist schon unsere jaehrliche Konferenz "TiEcon"... Es war so schoen alle nochmal wiederzusehen und zusammen das Wetter und die Stadt/Napa zu geniessen - ich hoffe, dass diese Gelegenheit ganz bald wiederkommt! Ach, schoen war es hier... It was my second to last weekend here in CA, the last one with my friends, as next weekend our annual conference "TiEcon" will take place... It was so good to see everybody again, and enjoy the city as well as Napa - and I do hope very much that this occasion will return very soon!!! It was a fantastic time here...

Carmel my heart

Ein letztes Mal nach Carmel zu fahren (Amra ist mitgekommen) konnte ich mir nicht nehmen lassen... mein Lieblingsoertchen hier in Nord-Kalifornien, mit einer wunderschoenen Bucht und vielen schoenen Erinnerungen an die Menschen mit denen ich schon hier war ;-)))! Leider war das Wetter neblig und kuehl (siehe Unterlippen-Vorschieb-Foto), das tat der Schoenheit aber keinen Abbruch und ich habe gebuehrend Abschied genommen... So langsam muss ich mich an den Gedanken wohl gewoehnen, von Kalifornien loszulassen... aber bin auch gespannt, wie es weitergeht... To see Carmel one last time was very high up on my To-Do list (Amra came along)... it is my favorite place here in Northern California with a beautiful bay and beach and connected to a lot of sweet memories of the people I have been here with before... Unfortunately the weather was cool and foggy (that is why my expression on the first pic ;-) ) but still so pretty! I guess slowly I have to get used to the idea of letting go of California... but then I am trying to go with the flow and see what exciting thing comes next...

So happy wieder hier zu sein ;-))) Also am freien Freitag Musik in die Ohren gestoepselt, und losgezogen... kein Sightseeing, sondern einfach nur durch die Strassen wandern und wieder die herrliche Sonne und Stimmung geniessen!!! So happy to be back!!! On my day off this Friday I just plugged in my Mp3Player and wandered the streets randomly - no sightseeing in specific, just taking in the warm sun and the special atmosphere...
