Langsam heisst es: Abschied nehmen...

Mein vorletztes WE hier in Kalifornien, mein letztes mit meinen Freunden, denn naechste Woche ist schon unsere jaehrliche Konferenz "TiEcon"... Es war so schoen alle nochmal wiederzusehen und zusammen das Wetter und die Stadt/Napa zu geniessen - ich hoffe, dass diese Gelegenheit ganz bald wiederkommt! Ach, schoen war es hier... It was my second to last weekend here in CA, the last one with my friends, as next weekend our annual conference "TiEcon" will take place... It was so good to see everybody again, and enjoy the city as well as Napa - and I do hope very much that this occasion will return very soon!!! It was a fantastic time here...

Carmel my heart

Ein letztes Mal nach Carmel zu fahren (Amra ist mitgekommen) konnte ich mir nicht nehmen lassen... mein Lieblingsoertchen hier in Nord-Kalifornien, mit einer wunderschoenen Bucht und vielen schoenen Erinnerungen an die Menschen mit denen ich schon hier war ;-)))! Leider war das Wetter neblig und kuehl (siehe Unterlippen-Vorschieb-Foto), das tat der Schoenheit aber keinen Abbruch und ich habe gebuehrend Abschied genommen... So langsam muss ich mich an den Gedanken wohl gewoehnen, von Kalifornien loszulassen... aber bin auch gespannt, wie es weitergeht... To see Carmel one last time was very high up on my To-Do list (Amra came along)... it is my favorite place here in Northern California with a beautiful bay and beach and connected to a lot of sweet memories of the people I have been here with before... Unfortunately the weather was cool and foggy (that is why my expression on the first pic ;-) ) but still so pretty! I guess slowly I have to get used to the idea of letting go of California... but then I am trying to go with the flow and see what exciting thing comes next...

So happy wieder hier zu sein ;-))) Also am freien Freitag Musik in die Ohren gestoepselt, und losgezogen... kein Sightseeing, sondern einfach nur durch die Strassen wandern und wieder die herrliche Sonne und Stimmung geniessen!!! So happy to be back!!! On my day off this Friday I just plugged in my Mp3Player and wandered the streets randomly - no sightseeing in specific, just taking in the warm sun and the special atmosphere...

Inga's 30-er

Oje, die Reihe der 30-er wird ungebremst fortgesetzt - und bald bin ich dran!!! ;-) Aber erstmal war Inga am letzten WE die Glückliche, die ein neues Jahrzehnt einläuten durfte. Gefeiert wurde in Köln, super Party, viel Spass und nette alte ;-) Freunde, die ich mich sehr gefreut habe, wiederzusehen! Nochmals: Happy Birthday Inga, und wie gesagt, die 30-er sind die neuen 20-er ;-))) Oh no, is everybody becoming 30 nowadays??? And soon it is gonna be me... but last weekend it was Inga's turn, she entered her 30-ies, which we all know have become the new 20-ies ;-))) It was a great party, much fun, and good to see many old ;-) friends again! Once again: Happy Birthday Inga!!!

Berlin Berlin

Letzte Woche bin ich nach einem Jahr in der Wildnis (=den USA ;-) ) wieder zur Krippe zurückgekehrt, nach Hause gekommen, zu Besuch. Schön ist es. So schön, Family und Freunde endlich wiederzusehen die ich schon lange vermisst habe, aber auch schön zu sehen dass es auch Konstanten gibt im Leben und sich manche Dinge eben nicht ändern, und Vertrautheit und Verbundenheit bleibt. Ich bin also schon nach 3 Tagen nach Berlin gefahren und habe das Schnuppilein (Sandra) besucht, und wir haben gequatscht, gequatscht, gequatscht, es gab soviel nachzuholen. Zur allgemeinen Freude ist auch noch Benno mit seiner Freundin Marlen vorbeigekommen, und wir hatten eine gute Zeit zusammen. Ich hoffe, dass es nicht wieder ein Jahr dauert, bis wir das wiederholen können!!! ;-) Last week I returned to the crib, home to Germany, to visit. It is so nice. So nice to see family and friends again that I missed for a long time, and also good to see that there are things that don't change, constants that remain, intimacy and familiarity that stays. After 3 days I went to Berlin to see my friend Sandra, and we talked, talked, talked, tons to catch up. And as the bonus Benno and his girlfriend Marlen visited too, so that we had a real good time together. I hope that it won't take another year until we can repeat this!

Tahoe - go beers!

Die ersten beiden Fotos sind von vorletztem WE - da hatten wir Schneesturm in Tahoe und ungefähr 50 cm Neuschnee über Nacht - soviel Schnee hab ich echt selten erlebt, und es war wunderschön! Powder! Herrliches Ski-Fahren! Und die danach folgenden Bilder sind von diesem WE, auch Tahoe, als Millie für 27 Leute ein Haus gebucht hat! Das war ne Truppe! Hab mich gefühlt wie bei den Hochschulsport-Freizeiten, nur noch krasser - da war 24 Std. Spass angesagt: Trinkspielchen, Treppe auf Schneeboards runterrutschen, Lap-Dance und vieles mehr... ich kam mir schon fast alt vor ;-) Da konnte man bloss den Kopf schütteln und mitmachen ;-)The first two pics are from the weekend before last - we had a snowstorm in Tahoe and tons of snow - I cannot remember when I saw this much snow before! We had two feet of fresh snow over night - POWDER! Skiing was awsome fun! And the following pics are from the last weekend, when Millie booked and organized a trip to Tahoe for 27 people! Cool crowd! I felt like warped back to uni-times, when going skiing with a group, but it was even crazier: Flip-cup and drinking games, sliding down staircases on snowboards and lap-dances just to name a few... I really almost felt old compared to those "kids" ;-) All I could do was shake my head and participate in the fun ;-)

Redwoods and whales

Am langen WE (President's Day am Montag) haben Martin und ich eine Tour nach Norden unternommen - zu den Redwood Wäldern und zum Wale beobachten. Die Redwoods sind die höchsten Bäume der Welt, und es gibt sie nur hier - über hundert Meter hoch, und bizarr geformt manchmal... hohl, so dass man sich reinstellen kann, oder knorrig, aber meist schlank und lang. Und sie können 2000 Jahre alt werden - da kann man schon mal ne Stunde mit Jahresringezählen verbringen :-) Herrliches Wetter und warme frühlingshafte Sonnenstrahlen schienen durch die Baumkronen und in den kleinen Örtchen schien die Zeit still zu stehen. Ganz touristisch bin ich dann auch durch den Drive-Thru-Tree gefahren ;-) Am Montag sind wir dann wieder Richtung Süden, und haben in Fort Bragg Wale beobachtet. Leider war das Wetter nicht mehr ganz so gut für die Bootstour, es war aber nicht schlimm kalt und fast windstill - also "nicht so gut" ist relativ. Leider gibt es keine guten Photos, die Wale haben einfach nicht stillgehalten. Wir haben ungefähr 4 - 5 Stück gesehen, und eine Schwanzflosse ;-)Ich würde es gerne nochmal im März probieren, dann sollen sie wohl angeblich alle wieder zurück nach Norden wandern... Und zum Abschluss haben wir noch nach einigen Missverständnissen 3 riesige Krebse geschenkt bekommen, die wir dann ganz spontan zuhause mit viel Aijoli und scharfer Sauce geknackt und gefuttert haben - YUMMIEEEEEEEE!!!!! For the long president's day weekend I went with Martin for a trip up north to the redwood forrests and some whale watching. The redwoods are supposedly the tallest tress on earth, and can become 2000 years old -amazing to count the life rings of the fallen trees! They are very beautiful, some very bizarredly shaped so that you can stand inside them or some just sleek and 360 feet long!!! The weather was nice and the spring was in the air with the warm rays of sun coming through the trees and the little villages lying sleepy and unmoved by time. And then, very touristy, I drove through a Drive-Thru-Tree ;-)
On Monday we watched whales at the coast of Fort Bragg. The weather was grey bit windstill and not too cold, so kind of ok. We saw some 4-5 whales, but they would not be still forus to take a pic, and we did not catch them well in any photo. I would like to try again, when they are wandering back up north, and supposedly there will be more of them to be seen in March. And after some misunderstandings with the crab-selling guy, we were given 3 whole crabs as a gift for a spontaneous, delicious crab dinner at home - YUMMMMIEEEEEE!!!!
