Redwoods and whales

Am langen WE (President's Day am Montag) haben Martin und ich eine Tour nach Norden unternommen - zu den Redwood Wäldern und zum Wale beobachten. Die Redwoods sind die höchsten Bäume der Welt, und es gibt sie nur hier - über hundert Meter hoch, und bizarr geformt manchmal... hohl, so dass man sich reinstellen kann, oder knorrig, aber meist schlank und lang. Und sie können 2000 Jahre alt werden - da kann man schon mal ne Stunde mit Jahresringezählen verbringen :-) Herrliches Wetter und warme frühlingshafte Sonnenstrahlen schienen durch die Baumkronen und in den kleinen Örtchen schien die Zeit still zu stehen. Ganz touristisch bin ich dann auch durch den Drive-Thru-Tree gefahren ;-) Am Montag sind wir dann wieder Richtung Süden, und haben in Fort Bragg Wale beobachtet. Leider war das Wetter nicht mehr ganz so gut für die Bootstour, es war aber nicht schlimm kalt und fast windstill - also "nicht so gut" ist relativ. Leider gibt es keine guten Photos, die Wale haben einfach nicht stillgehalten. Wir haben ungefähr 4 - 5 Stück gesehen, und eine Schwanzflosse ;-)Ich würde es gerne nochmal im März probieren, dann sollen sie wohl angeblich alle wieder zurück nach Norden wandern... Und zum Abschluss haben wir noch nach einigen Missverständnissen 3 riesige Krebse geschenkt bekommen, die wir dann ganz spontan zuhause mit viel Aijoli und scharfer Sauce geknackt und gefuttert haben - YUMMIEEEEEEEE!!!!! For the long president's day weekend I went with Martin for a trip up north to the redwood forrests and some whale watching. The redwoods are supposedly the tallest tress on earth, and can become 2000 years old -amazing to count the life rings of the fallen trees! They are very beautiful, some very bizarredly shaped so that you can stand inside them or some just sleek and 360 feet long!!! The weather was nice and the spring was in the air with the warm rays of sun coming through the trees and the little villages lying sleepy and unmoved by time. And then, very touristy, I drove through a Drive-Thru-Tree ;-)
On Monday we watched whales at the coast of Fort Bragg. The weather was grey bit windstill and not too cold, so kind of ok. We saw some 4-5 whales, but they would not be still forus to take a pic, and we did not catch them well in any photo. I would like to try again, when they are wandering back up north, and supposedly there will be more of them to be seen in March. And after some misunderstandings with the crab-selling guy, we were given 3 whole crabs as a gift for a spontaneous, delicious crab dinner at home - YUMMMMIEEEEEE!!!!

Wieder eine Freundin und ein Sonnenschein weniger hier im Büro – Nidhi, die mich am Anfang unter ihre Fittiche genommen hatte, und mit der ich das erste halbe Jahr am meisten zusammengearbeitet hatte, hat TiE nun verlassen um sich auf die Suche nach dem beruflichen Glück zu machen. Alles Gute dafür, und wir werden Dich doll vermissen! Another sunshine and good friend has left the office – Nidhi, with whom I worked closely for the first 6 months here has left the organization and is seeking her luck and professional development outside of TiE. Good luck with your new endeavors, we will miss you dearly!
